New color photos of Lincolns parents and assassin

I've been updating the Color of Lincoln photos to add some depth to the collection. I've posted photos of the elder Lincolns and John Wilkes Boothe. Even after many Lincoln pictures have been colored, I am still in awe of the impact adding color adds to a photo.

Also, I've become a Twitter - follow my tweets on Twitter www.Twitter.com/LincolnNews

Dr Ron Rietveld Retires

Over the weekend, Natalie, Lee and I had the great honor of attending the reception and lecture honoring Dr. Ron Rietveld, the noted Professor Emeritus at California State University Fullerton.

Although I had spoken to Dr. Rietveld a number of times, it was our first in person meeeting. Lee Rizio, on the other hand, had met Dr. Rietveld many years ago.

The first of the annual Rietveld lectures was also held with a panel speaking on "Abraham Lincoln Memory Over the Last Twenty Years".

My heartiest well wishes to Dr. Rietveld as he pursues his retirement and other personal interests.

March 20

The thing about blogs is you need to be adding to them enough to make it interesting. I had the opportunity to speak with Ron Reitveld last week. Dr. Reitveld and I always seem to have these very interesting conversations. Here's a man who has been a part of the discovery of Lincoln history and has known many people through the years with important isight into Lincoln. Ron's remembrances of Fleetwood Lindley amd the descriptions of the President's body in the opened casket prompted me to think of what amounts of history reside within Ron and I guess in many of the Lincoln scholars. I find myself now a member of that troupe of people, discussing authenticcity of Lincoln photos and sharing discussions of the history of the man. I saw somewhere that the number of Lincoln books runs over 14,000. It's a good thing to add a "first" to such a broad field as I have done in publishing "Color of Lincoln" with the first collection of Lincoln photos in color.

New Lincoln Photo

March 9, 2009: There's yet another Lincoln photo recently discovered. I've been able to bring it into the Color of Lincoln collection in rather short order. OK - I'm having second thoughts It's provenance is substantial enough for me to weigh in that it is likely Lincoln. Initially it looks good but the only clue that this tiny image is Abraham Lincoln is the written caption on the back indicating Lincoln in front of the White House & that it comes from Ulysses S. Grant's personal collection. So why didn't they get handwriting verification to add to the provenance? Seems less than the stellar experts job in trying to prove the facts before promoting the image as a new find. Hoax Alert!! Check it out in color at www.ColorofLincoln.com

Lincoln's 200th Birthday

Lincoln's 200th birthday is almost here. I had opportunity to pull out my black suit and see my bicentennial lapel pin. Now it seems like Lincoln has been linked to Obama for the time being. Truly both presidents are challenged by domestic issues. The picture of Lincoln and Obama at www.coloroflincoln.com makes me wonder what the two might say if they had a chance to meet. I wonder if Lincoln haunts the White House.

Obama and Lincoln photo in color

With the Obama - mania hitting - I decided to take a look at putting Presidents Obama and Lincoln into the same picture in living color. It's pretty striking to see the two together. I've posted the two photos on www.coloroflincoln.com and put it on ireport on CNN. Take a look. Tell me what you think.

Lincoln - no bling here

I was reviewing the Color of Lincoln manuscript and it dawned on me that Abraham Lincoln never wore a wedding ring. The only jewelry ever photographed was the watch chain from the California delegation. It brings up many questions.
Why?
Did it tell us anything about his marriage?

Always more questions than answers it seems.
I think I should post a collage of pictures of Lincoln's ring finger on www.ColorofLincoln.com -

Kunhardt lifts Ostendorf's thumbnail view

I had an opportunity to see some of the new books on Abraham Lincoln that have hit the shelves. Seems the same old chronologies are being rehashed. The Meserve collection, now some 100 years old is once again being recycled. Everytime I see the Kunhardt book I wonder if Lloyd Ostendorf can sue for violation of copywright(of course they'd have to bring him to life again..). Wonder if any of his family checks out the competition. Thumbnail images of the black and white Lincoln photos... wasn't that done already?

a month to the Lincoln Bicentennial

Little did I realize when I said I'd have the book out for the Bicentennial that my printer would be psychic and keep putting the delivery out to that date. Of course, this has put the staff into a whirlwind because it's a whole month later than we initially told our customers.

I'll have to update http://www.coloroflincoln.com/ and let everyone know that as in all things printing, the gods are in control.

www.ColorofLincoln.com

For the last few years the website www.coloroflincoln.com has been where the information about the new collection of color pictures of Abraham Lincoln. It has been brought to my attention that more frequent updates are better and so this blog.

I want to thank the handful of supporters at the website for the last year and I'll be reaching out to all of you this week with some great news updates.

In a few weeks it will be the Bicentennial of Abraham Lincoln's birth. Finally, for the first time there is a credible collection of color Abraham Lincoln pictures. These are exactly the same photos from many sources dutifully made into lifelike color photographs.

There will be more to come. Until then.. Thanks and stay in touch !
